For this assignment I was a little doubtful of what my skills could create but in the end it turned out very nice (shoutout to Flexbox Froggy). I wanted to make a homepage that would "feel" peaceful and simple. I got rid of the images and color noise (at the moment I don't think that it helps with app recognition. Ideally I would've wanted to design icons that matched the concept). To me, water is the most peaceful thing. So I got a nice background to it and the buttons are all blue and the same.
First Try (Open in Mobile)
The next thing I wanted to do is for the sizes of the apps/buttons to match the amount of time spent in it by the user. So some of them would be bigger than others while keeping somewhat of a grid. I only managed it for one and it took some inelegant coding.
I had an idea after I was done, but couldn't really figure out how to do it: I wanted to add a water-ripple effect to the buttons when clicked but my button active state doesn't work at the moment.
Things I didn't like:
- Couldn't figure out an elegant way to code my second idea of different sized icons.
- Couldn't figure out how (or if) you can add a water ripple effect.
- didn't have time to design custom Icons.
- Both tries look terrible on Desktop.
Things I'm proud of:
- Learned how to stack things with z-index (was a doubt I had from last assignment)
- That it looks less noisy than my current homepage.
